Yes — M16 BCG for Fostech Echo is mandatory, not optional. Fostech’s official install sheet for the Echo Sport, Echo 2, and Echo AK says “M16 Full-Auto profile BCG required.” If you try to run a lightweight AR-15 semi BCG or a skeletonized carrier, your trigger will not reset on release.

Why does a binary trigger need an M16 BCG?

Binary fires on pull AND release. That means your BCG has to do twice the work in half the time. It needs to cock the hammer, trip the binary disconnector, and reset the trigger for the second shot. How it does that:

  1. Full Mass: The 11.6 oz weight of an M16 BCG keeps momentum high, so it fully cocks the hammer even with weak .223 ammo.
  2. Full Rear Trip: The full rear lip is what physically hits the Echo’s secondary disconnector. A cut AR-15 semi BCG misses it, so you get a dead trigger on release.
  3. Shrouded Firing Pin: Prevents the hammer from catching on the firing pin collar during the super-fast reset cycle.

Can I use a semi-auto BCG with a binary trigger?

You can try, but you will hate it. Common failures with semi BCG + binary trigger: failure to fire on release, light primer strikes, hammer follow, and bolt not going into battery. We see it daily in support emails. 90% of “my Echo trigger doesn’t work” is fixed by swapping from semi to M16 BCG. Franklin Armory BFSIII is more forgiving, but even they recommend a full-auto profile for best function.

Is the PTI M16 BCG compatible with Fostech Echo?

Yes. This is why we built it. The PTI M16 Full-Auto 5.56 BCG is purpose-built for binary triggers. Specs: 8620 steel carrier, 9310 MPI bolt, properly staked gas key, chrome-lined interior, 11.5oz full-mass. We tested it with Echo Sport, Echo 2, and Franklin BFSIII — zero reset issues even on 10.5″ over-gassed barrels.

What else do I need to make my binary run right?

If your gun is over-gassed (carbine gas, 14.5″ and under), add an H2 buffer + Sprinco blue spring with the M16 BCG. That combo slows you down enough to let the mag feed, but keeps enough mass to reset the trigger. Don’t use lightweight buffers with binary triggers.

Stop Chasing Trigger Issues With The Wrong Carrier.

Your binary trigger is not broken. Your BCG is.

The PTI M16 Full-Auto BCG is the cheapest fix to make your Fostech Echo run as it should. No gunsmith needed.
